With more than a decade of experience across law and engineering, Mic Liu helps clients move through challenges and change with clarity and compassion. At Drake Law, Mic is a trauma-informed lawyer who understands that legal problems often touch the most personal parts of life. Mic approaches every case by drawing on their lived experience as a racialized, Queer, Trans, and neuroatypical lawyer to create a supportive environment where clients feel respected and empowered.
Before joining Drake Law, Mic co-founded and led Liu Chooti Law & Counselling Group in Ottawa, a multidisciplinary firm integrating legal and counselling services, and previously practiced at Danielson Kabesh Law, Ecojustice Canada, and Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. Known for calm, trauma-informed advocacy, Mic brings broad experience across family, employment, human rights, environmental, and administrative law, along with the precision and analytical strength gained as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) who managed multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects—skills that translate into disciplined file management, sound judgment, and reliable results for clients.
Mic earned their Juris Doctor (Magna Cum Laude, Dean’s Award) from the University of Ottawa and is completing their PhD at the same institution, supported by the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship and the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship. Recognized nationally as an EDI Leader in Engineering Workplaces by Engineers Canada, Mic continues to mentor and advocate for inclusion across professions.
