Scholarship Overview

Ready to Launch Your Legal Career?

Drake Law is proud to establish The Drake Law Future Lawyers Scholarship, an annual award of $5,000 to an outstanding student from the Province of Ontario. This scholarship is dedicated to supporting the next generation of legal professionals who demonstrate the academic excellence and passionate commitment required to be effective, compassionate lawyers. While Drake Law has a specific interest in promoting growth in the challenging and essential field of family law, this scholarship seeks to reward outstanding students across all areas of legal study. The scholarship funds are intended to help alleviate the financial burden of law school tuition and will be paid directly to the relevant university or law school, allowing the recipient to focus on their legal education.

Applicant Criteria

The scholarship is designed for residents of Ontario who are Canadian citizens/Permanent Residents entering their first year (1L) of a Juris Doctor (J.D.) program at an accredited Ontario law school in Fall 2026. Successful applicants will demonstrate a history of exemplary academic excellence and proactive involvement. Preference will be given to candidates who show a tangible commitment to a career in law, and may include those with a particular interest in family law. This commitment can be shown through having completed an internship or volunteer position at a law firm, legal aid clinic, or other relevant organization. Additionally, a strong application will highlight leadership experience gained through active participation in a pre-law society, student government/counsel, competitive mooting, or other significant extracurricular activities that showcase advocacy, teamwork, and community engagement.

Application Deadline

The application period for The Drake Law Future Lawyers Scholarship will open on March 1st, 2026. All required application materials must be submitted by the deadline of June 30th, 2026. Late submissions will not be considered. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide proof of their Canadian citizenship/Permanent Residents and Ontario residency and have their schools send in official transcripts, either hard copies or eTranscripts, to verify the applicants’ academic qualifications and performance. The recipient and their school will be notified by the end of July 2026 to ensure the funds can be applied to the upcoming fall semester's tuition and associated fees.
